The companies under discount contract agreement in Greece are only: GOLDAIR and SKYSERV.

12.b  GROUND HANDLING Current Prices & Terms Offered for AOPA

IMPORTANT NOTE

Communicate with your HANDLER and before you fly to Greece ask for a PROFORMA INVOICE of your expected handling services charges.

This way you will avoid any surprises.

According to Greece AIP (GEN 1.2.5.1.4) you must accept and pay for handling services at major airports if it is offered to you. i.e. if it’s not offered don’t bother. The official wording in the AIP is: "It is obligatory to private aircraft to accept marshalling at all Greek aerodromes as well as crew and passenger transportation wherever such service is available".

IMPORTAN NOTE: Quite a few pilots object to the compulsory Handling imposed in Greece especially when the prices (depending on obligatory services) increase. What AOPA Hellas needs to point out especially to our foreign visiting friends is the following: Even though we as well are not happy with the scheme, we urge our visitors to see the Handler as the LOCAL POINT OF CONTACT for most facilitations. The Handler beyond the typical Marshalling and Escort to the apron walk to the terminal (the legal reason they are there for, security & safety), will also help you for any local information or service with "Greek Hospitality". You can ask them beforehand for example for the local taxi, car rental, gas station, the closest restaurant, hotel, beach etc. etc. All of the handling company contact personnel are good in EMAIL communications in English, always friendly and will gladly provide you vital local information which you would otherwise have to seek on your own through the Internet. See this as the extra value of the handling service which is nowhere documented. Remember that such services prove in handy especially when THINGS GO WRONG. We have had many cases where pilots reported to us exemplary Handlers' service beyond the "typical duty" where local handling personnel assisted them a lot in cases of minor engine issues, tires, batteries, alternators, fuel, lost/forgotten personal belongings etc. etc. You need that local friendly contact. This peace of mind cannot be quantified in Euro's.

AOPA Hellas has established discounted charges agreements with ground handling agents in Greece for better pricing towards AOPA members. These are roughly 50% discounts on the basic price of handling. The agreements include only Marshalling and Transport/Escort to/from airport terminal and they are available only for valid AOPA AIR CREW CARD holders and only GENERAL AVIATION private flights (incl. training). Commercial operation light aircraft flights are excluded.

If you have an IAOPA (any AOPA) AIR CREW card you can use it with our Ground Handling discounts agreements.

If you don't have AOPA card and want to become a member then apply to us (AOPA Hellas) from above top menu and by becoming a member you draw back the cost of handling in just 2~3 airport visits. The cost is (minimum one year) 50 Euro per year and you get your Membership Card in Electronic form for you mobile device.

For a handy display of available HANDLING AGENTS in Greece you can go to our planning tool www.aopa.gr/awg and select to view the layer Aerodromes / Heliports. In the options below it you can set what you see and that includes the available HANDLERS at each airport. Click on the airport sign for details in text.

To see which HANDLER is available where navigate to www.aopa.gr/awg and from TOP RIGHT thumbnail BASEMAP LAYERS select the following:

  • Hellenic airspace data
    Aerodromes / Helipots
Choose the airport types you're interested

PPR for public (CAA) AIRPORTS

1. Go to www.hcaa.gr/en --> OUR AIRPORTS --> Click on the airport you want --> Click on the name in the pop up ballon --> go to its BRIEF PRESENTATION

2. In there you find the airport CAA contact details. Contact them and ask for PPR.

3. AFTER you receive from CAA contact your handler with the PPR you have so they don't get it (and charge for it).

LGIR Iraklion CAA is known to defer pilots to handler for PPR.

Some CAA airport authorities (eg is some small islands) MAYT NOT reply via email or Fax. You can still call them up on the phone listed to ask for CAA office and request a PPR stating that you did not get a responce in your email. We have NO information on how often the CAA website is updated hence the airports' contact details may not be fully up to date. This is where the local Handler comes in handy but, obviously, at an extra cost.

It will save you some cost, more than that phonce call's cost.

Greece international calling code is +30

12.h

PPR for privatized AIRPORTS

Self PPR IS NOT possible for privatized airports of Athens Int'l and Fraport where the airport operator demands PPR to be routed via the Handler (called Representative).
