1. ATHENS FLYING WEEK (AFW 2013)
Athens Flying Week, the majestic international aviation fair of Athens, completed its events on Sunday, September 29 2013 with unprecedented attendance.
More than 50,000 visitors experienced an air show by the best pilots of the world with the most modern aircraft demonstrating their skills and abilities.
Athens Flying Week (AFW) started with an aviation-theme kiosk that served as a reference point where people could be thoroughly informed about the event, at Syntagma Square.
On Wednesday, September 25 was held with great success the aviation conference at Divani Caravel Hotel with the following speakers: Mr. Panos G. Orfanos, Ms. Julie Kalafatis, Mr. Rossidis Constantinos, Mr. Grigoris P. Kyriakou, Mr. Constantinos Patouras, Mr. Panagiotis Dimitriadis, Mr. George Avlonitis, Mr. Panagiotis Kosyvakis, Mr. Zissis Pechlevanoudis and Mr. Antonis Kousoudakis.
A day before the main event, Thursday, September 26 the beach of Palaio Faliro flooded with people that filled every corner of the "Greek Riviera" to enjoy a spectacular pre-show by the Alpha Jet of Red Bull, the world famous pilot of the Breitling, Francesco Fornabaio, and three seaplanes of AVIODREAM piloted by M. Anastasiou, G. Alevizos and K. Rossidi.
The peak of the aviation week of Athens was the three-day air show at Tatoi airport (September 27-29, 2013) with the following performers: Netherlands Air Force (F-16 Demo), Polish Air Force (“ORLIK” Aerobatic Team), the Flying Bulls Team of Red Bull (Alpha Jet) and world famous pilots such as Francesco Fornabaio (BREITLING), Jurgis Kairys (VOSTOK EUROPE), Luca Bertossio (World Champion in Aerobatics Glider), the veterans Blu Circe (they gave us a spectacular sight of acrobatic maneuvers and their average age is 70!), as well as WeFly! Team (the only flying team in the world on microlight composed by disabled pilots).
Thrill was caused by the "touch and go" of ??the AIRBUS A-320 of AEGEAN AIRLINES in the runway of Tatoi and gained the loud applause of more than 30,000 visitors who were there on Sunday afternoon.
From the Greek Armed Forces, the Air Force participated with the "DAIDALOS" T-6 Demo Team, the Super Puma helicopters and the C-130 aircraft, the Army with the helicopters Apache and Chinook and the Navy Helicopter with the helicopter AB-212 and its top commanders, who performed operational maneuvers with precision, mock rescues, paratroopers drops and made ??us feel proud of the staff of the Greek Armed Forces.
A significant contribution to the air show was the participation of the helicopter pilots Mr. Sofianos of Superior Air and Mr. Ververelis of Warter Aviation, as well as the aircraft Fairchild Metro III of Epsilon Aviation, the paratrooper’s drops from the Hellenic Skydivers and aeromodelism.
Aside from the air show, a series of ground events, activities and happenings also took place. These include trade exhibition, kid’s park, as well as hospitality area, DJ line ups & happenings.
